Theologos beach
Theologos (also known as Tholos) is located on the north-west coast of Rhodes, approximately 20 kilometres from Rhodes Town. Theologos consists of a small holiday village on the coast and the original village one kilometre inland.
The beach in general
The beach in Theologos is situated in beautiful natural surroundings. The almost constant wind makes the beach a paradise for wind and kite surfers.
The majority of the beach is covered with sand and a few pebbles. However, there are pebbles along the waterline and the first few metres into the water. The water has lovely turquoise colours and invites for a swim.
There are several sections with sunbeds, parasols and showers. If you prefer to be on your own and enjoy the calm atmosphere and beautiful nature, there’s plenty of space to do so. The beach is by no means overrun with tourists.
Child-friendly
The water deepens quickly, there are rocks at the water’s edge and often waves. The beach is therefore not very child-friendly, especially for young children.
Water sports activities
It is possible to rent equipment for windsurfing and kitesurfing. On days without big waves, water sports activities such as water skis, banana boat, single rings, double rings and super sofa are also available.
Beach restaurants
It is possible to eat at the hotels’ beach restaurants, and at the south-west end of the beach there is an older beach restaurant. Both it and Alex Beachbar in the centre of the beach get good reviews from guests.
Theologos as a holiday resort
Theologos, also known as Tholos, is a small and relaxed holiday resort right on the coast. An ideal place for those looking for a holiday in peaceful and scenic surroundings. There is a small selection of supermarkets, tourist shops and restaurants. Enough to cover most people’s holiday shopping needs.
There are only a few hotels in Theologos. The best is the 4-star Doreta Beach Resort & Spa, which is located right on the beach and has a beautiful pool area in the large garden. The hotel has many facilities and is suitable for both families and couples.
The original Theologos is a traditional village about 1 km inland. A cosy village with narrow streets, traditional houses and the beautiful church of Agios Spiridonas. The short distance makes it possible to walk or cycle there.

If you fancy a shopping trip, there is a bus to Rhodes Town. Here you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants and cafés. Rhodes Town also has an interesting old town, considered one of Europe’s best preserved medieval towns. The highlight is the Grand Master’s Palace and the Knight’s Street, but there are many other interesting places. You can easily set aside a whole day to visit Rhodes Town.
A little south of Theologos is the Butterfly Valley, which is a beautiful experience. Butterflies fly freely and are apparently attracted by the sweet juice from the oriental sweetgum trees (liquidambar orientalis). From Theologos it’s only 7 kilometres to Butterfly Valley. A taxi to get there won’t cost you a fortune.

Theologos map
The map shows the entire holiday resort of Theologos. You can see the Doreta Beach Resort & Spa with the large swimming pool down by the beach. The village of Theologos is located a little to the south. The much larger holiday resorts of Ialyssos and Ixia are well to the north-east.
