Kathara beach
Kathara is a lovely beach on the east coast of Rhodes. The beach is an extension of Faliraki, the largest holiday resort in Rhodes. The distance to Rhodes Town is just under 15 kilometres.
The beach in general
Kathara is an almost 300 m long sand beach, only a short walk from the beach in Faliraki. The only thing separating the two beaches is a small harbour.
The beach has fine-grained, bright sand mixed with pebbles in a few places. The water is very clear, shallow and usually without waves. Kathara beach has all the necessary facilities such as sun lounges, sunshades, showers, changing facilities and toilets. Behind the beach there is a small shop where you can buy cold drinks, ice cream and other goodies for a nice day at the beach.
Although the beach is located on the outskirts of the popular holiday resort Faliraki, there is usually plenty of space and the beach is quite quiet. Parking is available right behind the beach.
Child-friendliness
Kathara beach is very child-friendly. There is plenty of room to play in the fine-grained sand, and the water is shallow and usually quite calm. At the southern end, there are areas with some rocks in the water.
Water sports activities
There are no water sports activities. However, you can find these at the beach in Faliraki a few hundred metres to the north.
Beach restaurants
There are as much as three restaurants by the beach. Here the guests can enjoy a lovely meal and the beautiful view.
Faliraki holiday resort
Faliraki is the largest holiday resort in Rhodes with a lovely sandy beach of almost 5 km. Most shops, restaurants and cafés are located in the southern part, which is also where you’ll find the most beachgoers.
In the northern part of the town there are many large family hotels and this part of Faliraki has a much quieter atmosphere. One of the best hotels is the all-inclusive Amada Colossos Resort, which is right on the beach but also has five swimming pools and its own fun water park with water slides.
Faliraki is also home to Faliraki Water Park, the largest water park in Rhodes. Here you’ll find water slides and other activities for the whole family. There are also many places to eat, so you can easily spend the whole day there.
Kathara beach map
The centre of the map shows Kathara beach just south of Faliraki’s small harbour. To the north is Faliraki, while the natural beach of Mandomata is slightly to the south-east.
